Local Information

NSPW 2008 will take place at PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn in Lake Tahoe, California.

Lake Tahoe spans both California and Nevada and is a world famous recreation area for skiing in the winter and boating and hiking in the summer, but is beauti ful all year round. The Squaw Valley ski resort also hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics. Fall is a wonderful time of year, with pleasent days and cool evenings.

Your NSPW registration fee includes not only your room but all your meals as well. Should you be bringing your immediate family, there is a fee of $325 to join the group for lunches and dinners.

PlumpJack was originally built as the home for the 1960 Winter Olympic delegation. It was completely renovated in 1995 and is now a is a 4-star boutique hotel. Rooms offer picturesque views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and include luxurious bath amenities, terry cloth robes and slippers, complimentary wireless Internet access, flat screen TVs, DVD players and an In-Room Movie System. Gourmet breakfast buffet for two each morning included. There is also a fitness facility, pool and hot tub.

A limited number of rooms have also been reserved before and after NSPW should you wish to extend your stay. These rooms are available at a rate of $179 plus tax. Extended stays must be arranged by participants themselves with PlumpJack . The booking for NSPW was originally under "UC Davis", not "NSPW". It will be changed, but if you call and they do not recognize whichever one you give, please give the other.

The venue is approximately one hour from Reno, NV (RNO), two hours from Sacramento, CA (SMF), 3.5 hours from Oakland, CA (OAK), and 4 hours from San Francisco, CA (SFO). Directions are available from the venue's web site. The most convenient way of getting to the venue is to fly into Reno and take the North Lake Tahoe Express Shuttle. The shuttle has no regular schedule in the fall and must be reserved ahead of time. It takes about one hour on the shuttle to get from RNO to PlumpJack. The rates are $35/person/direction, but are less if three or more people are traveling together (please feel free to use this email list to coordinate rides). Rental cars can also be reserved at any of the airports mentioned.
