LAKE DISTRICT

The English Lake District is a region of breathtaking natural beauty that has inspired some of our greatest poets, artists and thinkers... a place where the spirit soars and the soul is refreshed. All around is the landscape much loved by Wordsworth, Coleridge, Ruskin and Beatrix Potter who lived and worked here. At the heart of the National Park is the Langdale Valley, sheltered by the craggy heights of the famous Pikes which look down on a countryside as varied and beautiful as any in the world. In fact, the whole of the Lake District is a paradise for nature lovers and nowhere more so than this secluded valley.

    Throughout the year, the activities available in the Lake District are as varied as the landscape. many classic fell walks begin on our doorstep, with rock climbing, gorge walking and abseiling opportunities for the more adventurous. Everything from sailing , canoeing and windsurfing, to pony and quad trekking are located nearby, as are first class facilities for golf, tennis, clay pigeon shooting and fishing. Whatever the weather, there is always a wide choice of things to see and do. The Lake District is a region rich in heritage with ancient historic sites, castles, stately homes and gardens, as well as a wide variety of museums. Ruskins's home at Brantwood on the shores of Conison Water and Beatrix Potter's Hill Top Farm are open to the public and draw people from all over the world. Ti is these popular attractions, along with picturesque market towns, their craft workshops and unique Lake District events and exhibitions which ensure there is something of interest to suit all ages and tastes.

Overlooking the luxurious tropical pool of the acclaimed Country Club is the Tamarind Terrace Restaurant and Cocktail Bar. A short, pleasant walk to Chapel Stile brings you to Wainwrights' Inn, a traditional Lakeland pub with stone flagged floors, open fires and real ale. Originally part of a 200 year old Cumbrian farmhouse, it has been carefully restored and decorated with many local antiques and curiosities. Well-known for its hospitality and good food, Wainwrights' is regularly featured in the Good Pub Guide.

            The Langdale Estate nestles in mature woodland beside a mountain stream at the foot of the spectacular Langdale Valley, close to the villages of Elterwater and Chapel Stile. It is easy to find, and the road that serves the valley passes alongside.
